2022-WINDOW

2022-WINDOW is a work I created in the context of a new type of coronary epidemic in 2022. In that year, I and many others experienced the worst city closure in modern history. During the days of the blockade, windows became the only bridge between the outside world and the people isolated at home and deprived of their freedom.

Covid-19 & Lockdown in China

Due to the COVID-19 outbreak in 2022, certain Chinese cities implemented blockade measures that severely restricted transportation, commerce, and public activities. Although these measures were necessary to contain the virus and safeguard public health, they had a significant impact on the lives and economies of local residents. Masks became a symbol of the pandemic during the blockade and were widely worn to prevent the spread of the virus.

These three cartoon drawings are my favourite pieces, they are all very satirical in nature and are very direct drawings of the author's attacks and protestsagainst the powers that be or dictators I would like to experiment with thisstyle of satire in my cartoons, perhaps I can find some inspiration andexpansion in my satirical work

Developing Sketching I

I tried to draw a picture of the COVID-19 nucleic acid test and satirised the government for overdoing it and forcing bottomless tests on people.

Solitude and Loneliness

Anxiety and restlessness

Calmness and self-reflection

Anger and frustration

Exhaustion and Burnout

I began to draw a series of masked silhouettes on A4 paper, each representing a different state of being and a different emotion in my isolation at home.

I scanned and took these, uploaded these drawings into computer AI to digitally draw, and I wanted to draw various shapes of quarantine nets in front of this masked man to represent the fact that we're trapped by these invisible iron nets of the epidemic.

Laser Cutting Workshop

So, I used laser cutting to make six experimental products. Then, I just started putting them together like building blocks - making cages, corridors, and stuff. It was pretty cool because it inspired me to design even better installations.

For my installation, I created six faceted mask doors that were laser-cutting and assembled into a large cage measuring 150 cm in height. To prepare for the final work, I made a mini-sized mask door to figure out how to assemble the laser-cut mask boards on the frame. I decided to bind the corners of the mask with wires and connect them to the border, inspired by the way huge posters on buildings are connected with wires to the edges of the posters and then tied to the wall.

InspirationWindow in church

•The history of church windows, including their development and use in different cultures and the materials and techniques used to make church windows, including stained glass, lead and paint The meaning and symbolism of church windows, including their use to tell stories, religious teachings and beautify churches The influence of church windows on art history and popular culture

• I can start to think about how to incorporate ideas and concepts from church windows into your own artistic window or cage installations

•Use wooden slats and wire or other materials to create a sense of structure and order

•Usinglines and shapes to add depth and detail to my installation

•Symbolsand images from religious art can be studied to create a meaningful and evocative installation For example the face with a mask could be used as a symbol for an epidemic

Because of the limited time before the exhibition and the workload of constructing the six-sided cage, I didn't take into account the high cost of materials. As a result, I only constructed one side. However, I realized that the steam house location was ideal for hanging works like windows, so I redesigned the window device instead. This required significantly less work than building the six-sided cage.
